It appears a cinema chain may have posted a little too much information too soon: a newly updated synopsis for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has surfaced online, and it seemingly hints at who the sequel’s real big bad might be.

With the next Mario movie set to arrive in April, UK cinema chain Everyman recently refreshed the film’s listing with a new plot description—one that includes a character name fans haven’t officially heard attached to the project yet. The synopsis reads:

“After defeating Bowser and saving Brooklyn, Mario faces Wario and Bowser Jr.'s evil alliance. Now, alongside his friends and Yoshi, he must stop their plans for world domination.”

If that text is accurate, it suggests Wario could finally be making the leap into Mario’s animated film universe. When the first teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie dropped, the spotlight seemed to fall on Bowser Jr. as the central threat—positioned as the villain pursuing Mario and friends in a bid to free his father, Bowser. This updated description, however, implies Bowser Jr. may not be acting alone… or may have bigger ambitions than fans initially assumed.

That said, it’s worth treating the listing with caution. It’s unclear where Everyman sourced the synopsis from, and neither Nintendo nor Illumination has commented. There’s also the possibility of a simple mistake—someone could have intended to write “Bowser and Bowser Jr.” rather than “Wario and Bowser Jr.” Still, the idea of Wario entering the sequel raises plenty of questions about what kind of story (and tone) the next movie is aiming for.

Wario first showed up as the final boss in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins back in 1992 on the Game Boy, and he’s since become one of the franchise’s most recognizable troublemakers—headlining the WarioWare series and appearing across countless Mario spin-offs, including as a playable character in Mario Kart. With his signature cackle, pointed mustache, and purple-and-yellow getup, he’s a natural fit for a bigger on-screen role… if the rumor proves true.

So far, though, Wario hasn’t been spotted in any official teasers or credible leaks. The upcoming movie has already shown it’s happy to dig deep into Nintendo history—fans have pointed out everything from unexpected character cameos to hints that other Nintendo worlds could be referenced. There was even buzz about a first look at R.O.B. the robot via a reported play set. But Wario? Not yet. At least, not publicly.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is currently slated to hit cinemas on April 1, 2026. Until Nintendo and Illumination confirm more, this synopsis remains an intriguing (and potentially accidental) tease of what could be next for Mario on the big screen.
