Fox and Hulu have officially commissioned a new Family Guy spin-off centered on the show’s most notorious time-hopping toddler — and the setup sounds like a chaotic, adult-leaning riff on The Magic School Bus.
As reported by Deadline, the series is simply titled Stewie and has landed a two-season order. While an exact episode total hasn’t been fully detailed, current expectations suggest fewer than 15 episodes per season.
The premise drops Stewie Griffin (voiced, as ever, by Seth MacFarlane) into an unfamiliar environment: a new preschool that’s described as “not exactly top-of-the-line.” There, he’s stuck among kids he doesn’t know — plus one particularly irritating classmate: a 75-year-old turtle. When Stewie realizes the entire class is as miserable as he is, he decides to “fix” school the only way he knows how: by unleashing his personal arsenal of inventions to transport the children across space and time, turning dull days into bizarre, surreal adventures.
In other words, it’s Stewie as a decidedly R-rated version of a field-trip mastermind — swapping wholesome science lessons for unpredictable, reality-bending mayhem.
MacFarlane also shared a tongue-in-cheek statement about the announcement: “I’d like to thank Fox for this incredible opportunity, and I’m excited to start pretending I’m collaborating closely with them on the show.”
MacFarlane will executive produce, with longtime Family Guy writer Kirker Butler serving as showrunner. The project is being produced under MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door banner, which is also behind series like Ted and the upcoming TV adaptation of The ’Burbs.
Stewie is currently slated to premiere in the 2027–2028 season. In the meantime, Family Guy is available to stream in full on Hulu and Disney Plus.
